AN UNDEVELOPED block next to Liverpool station would be an ideal place for a multi-storey parking station, the NRMA believes.
NRMA Western Sydney director Gary Punch said developing the vacant Bigge St site would help relieve Liverpool's parking woes and get people using public transport.
Mr Punch has also written to State Transport Minister John Watkins urging RailCorp to work with Liverpool Council to consider building a commuter car park on the vacant site.
"The block appears to be the ideal place to build a multi-storey all-day parking facility to get more motorists onto public transport," Mr Punch said in his letter.
He said an NRMA statewide study showed 43 per cent of motorists would use "park and ride" facilities rather than drive to work if more facilities were available.
"The study also found that Liverpool was one of Sydney's busiest transport corridors yet Liverpool station does not have the parking facilities available to meet the needs of the local community now, let alone with future growth," he said.
It was time for local and state governments to get serious about making Liverpool station a viable option for commuters, he said.
"Liverpool station doesn't even have 'kiss and ride' facilities," he said.
A Liverpool City Council spokeswoman said parking facilities at railway stations were a State Government responsibility.
