DYLAN Wulf can't believe his missing pet ferret Mister is being held for ransom.
The family of the Hinchinbrook teenager received a call from a man who said he had the missing ferret, but first wanted to know what the reward was.
Dylan's mum Tracey said after Mister escaped from their backyard on Dylan's 14th birthday on June 17, they put out flyers around their block.
``About three hours later a gentleman called and said `Are you the lady that's lost a ferret?','' Mrs Wulf said. ``I said `Yes' and he kept asking me how much the reward was.''
She offered the man, who had a Mediterranean accent and called himself Tony, $50 and pleaded with him to return Dylan's ferret.
``He said he'd think about it and that he needed to speak to his children who had become attached to the ferret,'' she said. ``I said `You can't do that, it's my son's ferret'.''
Despite the man saying he didn't want the ferret because it bit his baby, he has not called again. ``I can't believe people can be like this where is their compassion?'' Mrs Wulf asked.
The family had just nursed Mister back to health before he disappeared and it's mating season for him and Missy.
Dylan said he remained hopeful the man who has Mister would find it in his heart to return him. ``I just want him (Mister) back even if they leave him on my doorstep no questions asked,'' he said.
The $50 reward is still on offer and Dylan is willing to give the man's family a ferret from Mister and Missy's expected litter.
Green Valley police crime manager Chief-Insp Mark Brett said the man had an obligation to return the ferret to its owner.
``He could be charged with steal by finding if he's made no effort to return the animal,'' Chief-Insp Brett said.
