EXPERIENCED lawn bowls skip Karen Mitchell believes a strong understanding between teammates is the key to winning a club pairs championship.
Mitchell and teammate Cath Best won the Liverpool City women's club pairs championship with a 25-17 defeat of Robyn O'Donohue and Laura Coles.
Mitchell, who skips in the club's grade 2 pennants team, said that a deep knowledge of each other's capabilities gives them a big advantage over less experienced teams.
``We have been playing together for a while,'' Mitchell said.
``When you have a combination, you stay with it and we have got a lot of understanding.''
The pairs final was played over two days with rain forcing the game to be postponed with Best and Mitchell leading 1-0 after one end on the opening day.
On the resumption of play, it was all one-way traffic in Best and Mitchell's favour.
``We got off to a flying start and we kept that lead and that's all you have to do,'' she said.
``We got a lead and the opposition had to catch us and that's what we did and they weren't going to catch us.''
Mitchell, a former NSW player, said Best set up the win with her consistent draw bowling at lead.
``You have to have a lead and she (Best) played some nice bowls,'' Mitchell said.
``She was around the jack and she got a lot of bowls in there and that made a difference and made it easier for me as a skip.''
